{"id":2,"date":"2009-02-27T22:55:51","date_gmt":"2009-02-28T03:55:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theonleyplace.com\/wordpress\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2024-09-07T13:34:27","modified_gmt":"2024-09-07T17:34:27","slug":"abiut-the-onley-place-theater","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.theonleyplace.com\/?page_id=2","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello friends,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong><u>Fall 2024<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s time again for news from The Onley Place.\u00a0 I can\u2019t believe it\u2019s been a year since our last newsletter, but time is flying by, just like the old folks used to say.<\/p>\n<p>Seems there is always work to be done at the Onley Place.\u00a0 \u201cMaintenance\u201d is now my job, which includes mowing grass every 4-5 days this time of the year.\u00a0 And since we don\u2019t have a horse and mule anymore, there is even more to mow.\u00a0 It takes me five hours to mow, with a 54\u201d Z-turn.\u00a0 And every two weeks, I mow my neighbor\u2019s yard.\u00a0 And I mow the Stallings cemetery, nearby, during the month of September.\u00a0 We had 4 loads of stone put on the driveway (at $800 per load), and neighbor Ricky Stallings graded it for us.\u00a0 We also trimmed the land of low limbs.<\/p>\n<p>Seems there is always work to be done on the barn, too. We made a few more changes to the barn that you\u2019ll notice this year.\u00a0 We have had to work on some of the roof of the barn, and a few other small things. Guess it will never end.<\/p>\n<p>We only have bantam chickens to feed here on the farm now.\u00a0 \u201cOld Bill Johnson\u201d is still here but <strong>very <\/strong>old, so\u2026..\u201d Young Bill Johnson\u201d is now the top rooster.\u00a0 Three of the hens went to set this spring, and we now have 23 young bantams.\u00a0 I\u2019ll keep them through the winter, but folks call me every spring looking to buy them.<\/p>\n<p>Our sweet dog \u201cHighball\u201d is no longer with us.\u00a0 He was killed by a group of our neighbor\u2019s dogs last winter, right here in the edge of the yard.\u00a0 They had hurt him pretty bad a couple of years ago, but the vet stitched him up, and he recovered.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve had several dogs in the past, but absolutely none as sweet and friendly as \u201cHighball\u201d.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure we\u2019ll get another one day, but not in a hurry.<\/p>\n<p>My late neighbor Asa Stallings (who lies in the cemetery I mow) had an old log stable on the farm when he bought it in the 1920s.\u00a0 Since his death 20 years ago, trees and vines had taken it over.\u00a0 His heirs graciously let me get it and move it to The Onley Place.\u00a0 I\u2019m pretty sure it was built in the early 1800\u2019s, if not before.\u00a0 I put it on a log sleigh and neighbor Kenny Haines pulled it here.\u00a0 I had to replace about a dozen logs, but it\u2019s still in pretty good shape, as it had tin that was put on the roof years many years ago, which helped greatly to save it.<\/p>\n<p>And\u2026\u2026\u2026.I\u2019m about to move a 1762 house here this winter.\u00a0 It belonged to my Uncle Johnnie &amp; Aunt Louise Stallings, who had made it into a barn.\u00a0 Thanks to my cousin Tommy and his family for letting me save the \u201cJoel Hollowell\u201d house.<\/p>\n<p>After four years of saving, Gene and I took a trip a few weeks ago to Barcelona, Spain, Lisbon, Portugal, and Amsterdam, Netherlands.\u00a0 Our friends Erik and Steve joined us for part of the trip, and we had a great time.\u00a0 LOTS of great food and wine!\u00a0 Great to go, but always great to get back home.\u00a0 We begin saving again.<\/p>\n<p>We made blueberry wine this year, and Gene canned lots of pickles and jams.\u00a0 You can buy them from our \u201ccountry store\u201d right here in the barn (except the wine) during our shows.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of shows, our first one is Oct. 19<sup>th<\/sup> with \u201cBand It\u201d.\u00a0 They were here last October and did a great job!\u00a0 Our steel guitar buddy Bob \u201cMuskrat\u201d Reams will be here with them, along with Rat\u2019s daughter Lacey Winslow, and our regular folks.<\/p>\n<p>Our Christmas show is Dec. 6<sup>th<\/sup> and 7<sup>th<\/sup> this year.\u00a0 Adam Nixon and \u201cHallelujah Crew\u201d will be here for that, along with Connie Riddick, Jo White and the regulars.<\/p>\n<p>Gene will have the barn decorated to the max!\u00a0 And we\u2019ll have the old houses open, with a little period Christmas decorations.\u00a0 On Dec. 8<sup>th<\/sup>, we\u2019ll have an \u201copen house\u201d from 2-4, likely with some light refreshments.\u00a0 Adam will be here to provide a little Christmas music.<\/p>\n<p>Our Valentine&#8217;s show will be on February 14<sup>th<\/sup> &amp; 15<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 We\u2019re looking forward to having \u201cOut-N-The Cold\u201d back with us for the show.<\/p>\n<p>Our Spring Show has not been put together yet, but keep an eye out.<\/p>\n<p>Look forward to seeing you again,<\/p>\n<p>Steve &amp; Gene<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello friends,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fall 2024 It\u2019s time again for news from The Onley Place.\u00a0 I can\u2019t believe it\u2019s been a year since our last newsletter, but time is flying by, just like the old folks used to say.
